Valentines Day Plant Arrangements

It’s February, and that means it’s time for that loveliest of holidays, Valentine’s Day. Because Valentine’s Day is a holiday that not everyone is ecstatic about, decorating for the occasion isn’t appropriate for everybody, especially in a professional setting. But there are understated ways to acknowledge the day without filling your office or hotel lobby with heart-shaped balloons.

Red and pink are the colors most commonly associated with love and Valentine’s Day, which should provide an easy transition from your Christmas and New Year’s indoor plant arrangements. Roses are the most obvious choice, but covering a large area with them can get expensive. On top of that, a room full of roses would not exactly achieve the subtle effect you’d like from a Valentine’s display in the workplace. The best thing to do is to use roses sparingly. If you are just placing a few roses around the office, a common way to fill space around themĀ  is with baby’s breath. The white complements the deep red nicely. Another option is to use roses to spice up arrangements that focus on other plants and flowers.

If you like the idea of mixing white with red, as with the aforementioned baby’s breath, white orchids and carnations are two choices that will add to the beauty of your design.

All that red and white can get overwhelming, and you don’t want your workplace to look like a greeting card. To help balance the flowers in your indoor Valentine’s Day arrangement, add some other colors to the mix. This can be as simple as using an entire orchid plant (not just the flowers), or as complicated as introducing a variety of plants known for their foliage. Colorful tropical plants such as birds of paradise can be used to add more visual diversity, especially those with traces of red and yellow. And when dealing with plants, green goes with everything.

Planning for Valentine’s Day is difficult enough at home, but trying to pull it off in the workplace can be even more stressful.
