Breathe new life into your workplace with a Vertical Living Wall System.

The Living Wall is a live planter system that can be mounted directly to an existing wall turning the wall into unique EcoArt, adding warmth to your space. The Wall can also be used to create an exciting new standalone wall or space divider to optimize your workspace or lobby in an unconventional manner.

Vertical Living Walls can add many perks to your business besides adding instant grace and beauty to an indoor environment having indoor plants offers many other benefits:

Having live plants indoors provides passive cooling to your indoor space, which in turn reduces energy while increasing the amount of oxygen in the room.

Good bacteria living on the roots of the plants metabolize impurities in the air this is thought to help decrease the risk of Sick Building Syndrome.

Making a Living Wall part of your workplace qualifies you for LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) putting you and your company at the cutting edge of going green.

Studies have shown that indoor plants reduce stress and make people calmer. They have even been shown to reduce blood pressure!

Why not make your patrons and employees more relaxed? A happy customer is a paying customer and a happy worker is a productive worker.

Vertical Living Walls are environmentally conscious and easy to use.

Each Living Wall consists of planter trays made of Eco fiberglass.

New standalone walls or space dividers have metal frames made of 90% recycled steel.

The trays and frames come in a variety of dimensions to accommodate any space.

Easily removable grow pots make replacing and watering the plants a cinch.

You only have to water every two to three weeks thanks to the special wicks that provide the plants with an adequate amount of water as needed.

Greenery and flowering plants both work beautifully.

Your Living Wall could even be filled with herbs and edibles.

This would be perfect for a commercial kitchen or restaurant space. Just think about preparing your customer’s food with fresh herbs that grow right in front of them. How wonderfully personal and environmentally sustainable! The possibilities are endless with a Vertical Living Wall.

It’s that wonderful time of year when we go marching into spring. In this season of growth, the weather starts getting warmer and flowers start to bloom again. Why not celebrate this auspicious occasion with a new indoor plant arrangement in your home, office or resort?

When choosing flowers to represent spring in your workplace, think of bright, airy colors. White and yellow are ideal, but they can be accentuated with light pink and purple. For example, daisies, orchids and daffodils can be mixed with azaleas and Delphinium (larkspur) to create a beautiful spring-themed display. This is especially advantageous if you used white flowers in your Valentine’s Day decor—you’ll be able to change the overall appearance and theme of your workplace’s seasonal display without changing out all the plants. For those paying attention, it will also create a seamless transition from one season to the next. Lilium longiflorum, commonly known as the Easter lily, is another popular flower in the spring. Its white and yellow appearance is perfect for the season and your interior design.

In many parts of the country, spring marks the first time in months that the plants and trees outside have been green. This makes green another welcome addition to any spring-themed plant display. One way to add more flowers and a healthy dose of green is with the spring green tulip. Not only are the plant’s leaves green, but its flowers are as well. The spring green tulip is a light, whitish green, and is a beautifully understated way to commemorate spring in a professional setting. And it will complement your other flowers tastefully.

Once you’ve decided you have enough flowers and would like to balance them out with some non-flowering green plants, you have an array of options. One popular choice in many offices and hotels is the fern. Ferns have a familiar-yet-exotic look that feels comfortable without being dull. They’re a great place to start. Or if you’re feeling especially ready for summer, a few small palms can make your workplace feel nice and laid back.

Because the options seem so limitless, decorating for the spring can feel overwhelming. If you ever have doubts about what you’re doing, or if you need extra guidance, it’s always a good idea to talk to an expert. The pros at Emerald Isle Bella Indoors have been providing seasonal and year-round decoration and indoor plant maintenance to Central Florida’s businesses and residents for over 20 years. Call today for a free consultation.

It’s February, and that means it’s time for that loveliest of holidays, Valentine’s Day. Because Valentine’s Day is a holiday that not everyone is ecstatic about, decorating for the occasion isn’t appropriate for everybody, especially in a professional setting. But there are understated ways to acknowledge the day without filling your office or hotel lobby with heart-shaped balloons.

Red and pink are the colors most commonly associated with love and Valentine’s Day, which should provide an easy transition from your Christmas and New Year’s indoor plant arrangements. Roses are the most obvious choice, but covering a large area with them can get expensive. On top of that, a room full of roses would not exactly achieve the subtle effect you’d like from a Valentine’s display in the workplace. The best thing to do is to use roses sparingly. If you are just placing a few roses around the office, a common way to fill space around them is with baby’s breath. The white complements the deep red nicely. Another option is to use roses to spice up arrangements that focus on other plants and flowers.

If you like the idea of mixing white with red, as with the aforementioned baby’s breath, white orchids and carnations are two choices that will add to the beauty of your design.

All that red and white can get overwhelming, and you don’t want your workplace to look like a greeting card. To help balance the flowers in your indoor Valentine’s Day arrangement, add some other colors to the mix. This can be as simple as using an entire orchid plant (not just the flowers), or as complicated as introducing a variety of plants known for their foliage. Colorful tropical plants such as birds of paradise can be used to add more visual diversity, especially those with traces of red and yellow. And when dealing with plants, green goes with everything.

Planning for Valentine’s Day is difficult enough at home, but trying to pull it off in the workplace can be even more stressful.

The easy part about decorating your office or resort with plants for Christmas? The choice of plants. The hard part? Showing restraint.

With Christmas being the most commercialized of holidays, it’s easy to get carried away when decorating. This is perfectly acceptable (and a lot of fun) at home, but it can be overwhelming in the workplace.

You know where to start: a Douglas or Frasier fir for a Christmas tree. There are advantages to using an artificial tree, but none of those makes up for the fact that it will look fake. Additionally, the pleasant aroma of a natural tree adds an extra dimension to your decor. Choosing ornaments for your tree is where it starts to get tricky, and will depend largely on the image of your business. For a family-oriented resort, feel free to use colorful ornaments in a variety of shapes and sizes. For a more professional environment, ornaments should be more subdued and uniform. Silver is usually a good choice of color. If you’re having trouble deciding how to decorate your tree, it is wise to ask a professional interior designer for help.

Once you’ve got your tree picked out and decorated, you can move on to other Christmas-related plants. The poinsettia is arguably the most popular flower used around Christmastime, and is widely available at a variety of stores in December. Poinsettias are subtropical plants, and are therefore ideal for indoor use.

Wreaths are often used in Christmas decoration, and can be a nice addition to your doors or walls. Wreaths can be bought pre-made, or you can make your own. Holly serves as the basis for many wreaths, augmented with items as diverse as flowers, pine cones and candy canes. Once again, this is a decision that should be based on personal preference and what is appropriate for your business.

Finally, who can forget mistletoe? Mistletoe is traditionally placed in doorways, and people who stand under it are encouraged to kiss. You probably want to place it in an open area, so you can know what your employees are doing! Another reason to be careful with mistletoe: it’s parasitic, so be sure to keep it on its own—don’t use it in conjunction with other plants.

As mentioned earlier, it’s easy to get carried away when decorating for Christmas.

It’s hard to do, but once the new year hits, you need to say goodbye to all that hard work you put into decorating for Christmas. It all has to go. You can get away with keeping your Christmas decorations up for a few days into the new year, but you don’t want to be the only one on the block with a rotting tree—especially if you’re trying to run a successful business.

One way to decorate with plants for the new year is to use the Chinese New Year as inspiration. New Year is a major celebration for the people of China, and it brings with it a wide variety of symbolism and imagery. The best way to take inspiration from Chinese New Year in your seasonal interior design is to be subtle. Incorporate hints of This is especially important in an office or other type of professional business. You can take more liberties in a hotel or resort.

Chinese New Year is closely associated with the colors red and gold, which represent happiness and wealth, respectively. In the western world, this provides a great opportunity for transition, making subtle decorative changes from your Christmas display. Also, due to the theme of rebirth, flowers are a must. They symbolize a fruitful new year, which is a concept that transcends cultural differences.

But what kinds of flowers should you use in your New Year arrangement? Plum blossoms, peach blossoms, narcissus (daffodils), and chrysanthemums are all popular choices that carry with them a certain amount of symbolism. To add extra color and life to your display, you can use oranges and tangerines. These are frequently used to symbolize wealth and good luck.

Trying to assimilate a foreign culture’s symbolism into your business’s interior design is tricky, but the results can be immensely rewarding.

Thanksgiving is a true original, rooted solely in American traditions. Celebrate it in your workplace! Though Thanksgiving is more closely associated with its feasts than its decorations, there are tasteful ways you can give your office or resort the flavor of the holiday.

Aside from turkey with all the fixin’s, the most prevalent symbol of Thanksgiving is the cornucopia, or “Horn of Plenty.” The standard cornucopia is intended as a dinner table centerpiece, and is full of fruits and vegetables such as apples, gourds and dried corn. If you’re only keeping them out for a week, this kind of display could work in your office or hotel lobby. But if you’d like something to last longer and not run the risk of rotting, you can make a cornucopia of flowers. A good place to start is by thinking about the colors of autumn leaves—these are the colors you will want to use in your Thanksgiving display. In fact, if you live in an area where the leaves change colors, start by using leaves. They’ll create a nice base for the rest of your arrangement.

If you’re going to incorporate autumn colors into your arrangement, then you’ll need to choose flowers and plants that are red, orange and yellow—and perhaps garnish the display with a touch of brown. Lilies and daisies are always a great place to start, and roses can be used sparingly. If you’d like, you can mix flowers, leaves, and fruits and vegetables to create an earthy-yet-beautiful result. It’s all up to you. Now take the items you’ve selected and arrange them in a cone-shaped basket. This can get tricky. If crafting your cornucopia starts to get complicated—or if you just need some advice—ask a plant expert or interior designer to help tailor your arrangement to your budget and needs.

The professional interior designers at Emerald Isle Bella Indoors offer seasonal and year-round indoor plant maintenance. They have been helping Central Florida businesses and residents look their best for over 20 years. If you want to impress visitors to your home, business or office this holiday season, call today for a free consultation.

Halloween’s coming up. Everybody’s decorating and getting in the spirit. You’d like to do the same in your office or resort, but paper skeletons and plastic pumpkins won’t exactly be appropriate. What to do? Try using indoor plant arrangements to convey the mood of the season without making your workplace look like an elementary school classroom.

What you do use in your Halloween arrangement will depend largely on what you deem an appropriate level of festiveness in your office or resort. A resort owner might be able to get away with more playful decorations than a bank manager. Consider your audience. In any place of business, it is probably wise to avoid the ghosts, skeletons and tombstones motif. Those are all great for the home—trick-or-treaters love them—but they aren’t usually suitable for a professional environment.

The pumpkin is the most prominent and popular symbol of Halloween. This presents an advantage to the interior designer who wants to create a natural arrangement: Pumpkins are grown on plants. You’ve automatically got a natural centerpiece to build your display upon. Gourds can be also be used. They appear similar in color to pumpkins, but their shape is often twisted and knotty. If that’s what you’re going for, they can add a slightly sinister edge to your display.

If you’d like your setup to be more lighthearted, supplement your pumpkins with hay or even a scarecrow. This is a tricky area to explore without crossing the line into tackiness, so you might want to have a professional help out.

Orange and black are typically considered the colors of Halloween. With pumpkins, you’ve got orange covered. But what about black? Since you’re going for an indoor plant arrangement, you should balance the pumpkins with another natural choice. Try black flowers. Black flowers aren’t actually black, but they are deep enough purple that they appear black from afar. You’ve got a variety of black flowers to choose from: tulips, irises, pansies and roses all come in “black.” And they’ll tie your Halloween theme together with ease.

If you’re concerned about making the right—or appropriate—choices when decorating your resort or office for Halloween, it’s best to talk to someone with experience. Emerald Isle Bella Indoors has been helping Central Florida’s business owners with interior design and indoor plant maintenance for over 20 years. Call today for a free consultation.

When putting together a new interior design for your home, office or resort, you’ve got a lot to coordinate: furniture, artwork, plants, and even the planters your plants will live in. As you’re trying to organize these disparate elements into a cohesive whole, it’s easy to forget about one final element.

Picture frames.

Just like you need to pick out the right planters to go with your indoor plants, you need to pick the right frames to go with your artwork. Though it’s tempting to just choose some black frames and be done with it, it’s important to at least consider your options. There are a wide variety of frames out there, and picking the right one might be that final piece of your interior design puzzle. After all, would you rather have an inoffensive but drab black metal frame, or a wood frame that matches the furniture? It can mean the difference between a merely nice room and an impressive one.

Frame selection depends on a number of factors, including but not limited to color, shape, style and size. Matching other elements in the room is one thing to consider, but you should also think about what kind of presence and weight you want a picture to have in the room. For example, giving a favorite piece of art a larger frame and a mat that matches some aspect of your interior design will make it “pop” in a way a smaller frame can’t.

Placement of framed artwork is also a key element in maximizing its effect. This includes not just horizontal placement, but vertical as well. If you have a piece of art in a large frame that will command attention, make sure you put it in a location worth focusing on, or at least one that will show balance with the rest of the room. Then, avoid placing it too high or too low on the wall. This can create the illusion of a room being taller or shorter than it is, and can be disorienting for the onlooker (and just plain ugly).

The interior design experts at Emerald Isle Bella Indoors help customers every step of the way with plant and planter selection and maintenance.

Selecting indoor plants for your home, office or resort can be a daunting task—with so many to choose from, where do you begin?

Here’s a good place.

The following list is by no means comprehensive, but it is a good survey of a few of the most popular plants used in interior decorating.

Chinese Evergreens (Aglaonema)

Chinese Evergreens are a popular choice for offices and public spaces because they are easy to grow and maintain. They are hardy, require little attention, and thrive in a variety of light levels. It is important to remember that Chinese evergreens require a high level of humidity. Their soil should be kept moist as well.

Spider Plants (Chlorophytum comosum)

The spider plant is a South African plant with long, narrow leaves that grow from a central rosette. The most prevalent spider plant has broad stripes running along each leaf, but many are solid green. Spider plants are able to thrive in a variety of conditions, making them a great choice for beginners.

Hippeastrum

If you’re looking for a flowered plant to keep indoors, the hippeastrum is a good choice. They’re beautiful and easy to grow. They are commonly referred to as “Amaryllis,” though this is a misnomer. One hippeastrum may bear up to fifteen brightly colored flowers.

Orchids (Orchidaceae)

Another popular indoor flower is the orchid. The complexity and beauty of orchids will make any indoor setting much more relaxing and picturesque. And with more than 20,000 species of orchids—and 100,000 orchid hybrids—you’ll never have a shortage of options.

Philodendron

Philodendron is a large genus of flowering plants in the Araceae family, consisting of several hundred species. They are frequently used indoors because even though they prefer bright light, they are able to thrive in shaded areas. Philodendrons are especially interesting because one plant will feature leaves in a variety of shapes and sizes.

African Violets (Saintpaulia)

The African violet is a perennial flowering plant native to Tanzania and southeastern Kenya. Though it resembles a regular violet, it is not actually related. With African violets, you can choose from a wide assortment of flower types and colors, adapting to your interior design needs.

These are only a handful of plants frequently used indoors. The best way to weigh your options for decorating your resort, home or office is to discuss them with a professional. The experts at Emerald Isle Bella Indoors have been serving homes and businesses in Central Florida for 20 years, working with customers every step of the way to give you a majestic new interior design or enhance your existing one.
